MOURNING SONGS

During the spring 2003 I was strongly impressed by the pictures in newspapers and TV news from Iraq: the dryness of the earth, the lack of water and the blows of sand storm. I started making an installation of Finnish earthenware clay with engobes and some glazing. This installation consists of three parts: Be openhanded, Streams and One who Consoles. In the background sad songs sung by myself can be heard.

CUPBOARDS

In this installation the main subject is water. The origin of this theme is very simple - home, kitchen, everyday life. This is an interactive installation. The basic form is three recycled kitchen cupboards one of which I have overlaid from inside with blue tiles, one with unglazed earthenware tiles and the one in the middle I have filled with water bottles and clear glasses. Exhibition visitors may drink fresh water from the work. In the background lies the idea of uneven supply of clean water in the world.

In the work First Aid there is only one bottle of clean water left. Don´t waste a drop of it!
